Aleksandra Atanasovski

Floral decoration

The collection is inspired by the flowers that are arranged in garlands in Eastern countries such as India and Thailand, and given to welcome people and especially as offerings to deities. In Indian culture, offering has a different place than it does here. This practice is rooted in ancient Indian culture and can be said to be part of the process on the path to enlightenment. The decoration on Bodhisattvas is full of symbols that reflect their inner qualities. They are whimpering with their virtues and the jewellery they wear represents this. This rich mentality of putting on virtues for the benefit of others and not just to beautify one's own body is remarkable to me. Thus, all the practices of the Bodhisattvas are arranged in garlands of flowers that we too can wear. And if sometimes we just remember this meaning, we contribute a flower to our own garland.

Aleksandra Atanasovski graduated from the Accademia di belle arti di Brera in Milan in 1993 with a degree in painting after finishing her secondary studies at the School of Design. In 1994 she went to India where she studied Tibetan Buddhism and learned about Tibetan ritual painting. She returned to Slovenia in 2001, worked as a graphic designer throughout her post-academy career, and in 2003 was employed as a designer at Fructal in Ajdovščina. From 2008 to 2010 she designed the local newspaper Prepih. Since 2006, again after a long break, she has been designing jewellery. In contemporary art jewellery she has found her medium, space and expression. She sees jewellery as a communication object through which she expresses ideas about society, the individual and about raising awareness of various phenomena. She strives (together with some of her colleagues) to make this branch of jewellery come alive and become recognised in Slovenia, as it is elsewhere in the world. In 2018, together with Maja Licul, she founded Studio Eho, a studio for contemporary and artistic jewellery, located at Slovenska 17 Street in Ljubljana. She makes, exhibits and sells her jewellery in the studio. The studio also hosts other contemporary jewellery and art creators.

Aleš Hočevar

The ring represents a butterfly in flight. Chaos theory, or the butterfly effect, says that something as small as the flap of a butterfly's wings can change the course of the universe forever.

Aleš Hočevar first encountered jewellery design and making at the Waldorf Gymnasium. After graduating from high school in 2008, he continued his education at the Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics and Media, where he trained as a goldsmith, while also attending the Institute and Academy of Multimedia, majoring in graphic design. After completing his studies, he decided that he wanted to further his knowledge of design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. During his studies and afterwards he participated in many exhibitions and competitions around Slovenia. He is now working on making unique and bespoke jewellery. He often combines different materials such as precious metals and gems and materials such as wood, glass, leather, etc. He often keeps symmetry in his designs and the lines are mainly clean and geometric. In the manufacture of jewellery, he combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with the most modern techniques and approaches used in the jewellery industry today.

Anita Sonc

VOTLO

The "Votlo" collection is inspired by the feelings that come easily when wearing jewellery. Each piece of jewellery is handmade and shaped to perfectly fit the body and enhance its most beautiful features. It is designed to make individuals feel comfortable, relaxed and confident while wearing a piece of jewellery of extreme proportions. Its hollowness makes it wearable, comfortable and, above all, extravagant. The collection is made up of pieces interwoven with different textures and crystals. With each wearing of a piece of jewellery, the bond between the jewellery and the wearer is strengthened, who feels different sensations such as lightness, brilliance and incredible strength. The "Votlo" collection represents a unique way in which jewellery can connect with the feelings we experience when we wear it, becoming an expression of art that delights and enchants.

I'm Anita Sonc from Kostanjevica na Krki and my work focuses on designing jewellery with dimensions that exceed expectations. Creating pieces that stand out from the crowd is my design vision and allows me to create artistic pieces that are unpredictable and exude a strong individuality. Each piece of jewellery is meticulously hand crafted with passion and precision in metals such as silver and gold. I am inspired by everyday life, nature, art and cultures around the world. My approach to design is bold, creative and without constraints, allowing me to create pieces that shock, inspire and express the unique personality of individuals who embrace their authenticity and express themselves fearlessly.        I believe that jewellery is not just decoration, but also an expression of art.

Anže Mrak

My starting point for jewellery was the theme of this year's Slovenian Jewellery Week. I was thinking about what kind of jewellery would attract a person to touch, to squeeze. At the end of my research, I landed on a simple idea that focuses on the touch of a softness. At the same time, I wanted the final image of the jewellery to be closely tied to the person who will wear it. I separated the jewellery into two parts. The main part, which focuses most on the Sensation theme of this year's Jewellery Week, is a soft cladding made of PE foil. I have developed a technique of joining the plastic film with the help of a laser. In the engraving process, the laser melts two layers of PE film and fuses them together. I used this technique to make a pocket which I filled with filler. The second part that secures the cushion to the body is a 3D printed frame with a closure system. The frame is printed in PLA plastic.

My name is Anže Mrak. I am a graduate of Textile and Clothing Design at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering. During my studies I developed an interest in new technologies such as 3D printing and working with lasers. I participated in LJFW 2020 with an exhibition of my graduation collection, in the AR workshop at “Svetlobna gverila”; in 2021 I created AR filters with Neža Knez, which were presented in Ljubljana, and my 3D printed jewellery (under the mentorship of Prof. Karin Košak) was exhibited at the FormaViva symposium in 2021. In 2023 I participated in the Slovenian Jewellery Week and won the award for the best young designer. I am currently working at Trong, a company that deals with 3D visualisations of clothing and other digital solutions. I am also part of the Young Horn programme and my project was carried out with their support.

LUmini

The LUmini jewellery collection goes back to nature, to bioluminescence – the emission of light by living beings. The magic of this biological uniqueness evokes pleasant feelings of wonder and admiration for the mastery of nature, while opening up a world of its complexity. It also reminds us of the fragility of the living world, which is hurtling towards another human-induced extinction at great speed. The transformation of the energy of living beings draws a range of luminous images that were the inspiration for the patterns, hand-printed with luminescent pigment that glows in the dark when previously exposed to light. Complementary stitched and crocheted elements in luminescent thread make up the complete collection for body and space, which is handmade. The jewellery is light and soft, made of white recycled polyester fabric made from plastic bottles. It consists of a necklace and brooches which, in addition to being worn on the body, can be placed in the interior as stand-alone spatial elements. The collection is dedicated to my late father, a great lover of nature and a dedicated doctor.

Sometimes I Feel

“Sometimes I Feel” is a collection of three brooches that represent sensations I occasionally experience. The brooches possess a plain, smooth, and comforting feeling on the front, hiding the design in the back, a metaphor for human behaviour. Just like how we hide our emotions inside out of embarrassment and fear. Empty, Lonely, and Worthless. With this collection, I’m presenting myself completely vulnerable to the public, sharing feelings that I never dare to express, as I am often ashamed of them. The aim of depicting these moments is to look for compassion and mutual understanding from the public, that shared the same sensations but afraid to say them out loud.
Accompanying the brooches is a poem.

I achieved my diploma in Liceo Artistico P. Selvatico in Italy and my BA (Batchelor of Arts) at the Glasgow School of Art in 2023. My latest participation to exhibitions in 2023: Marzee International Graduate Show, Budapest Jewellery Week International Exhibition, Venice Design Week Jewellery Selection, Roma Jewellery Week – Alternatives Gallery, Vonmo 4th Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition, Beijing International Jewellery Art Exhibition, “Memories are made of this” at Sarah Myerscough Gallery. In the past months I received Fife Contemporary New Maker Award Prize, The Incorporation of Hammermen Prize, Goldsmith’s Centre One to Watch Prize, Second Prize at the Venice Design Week Jewellery Selection. I was a nominee for New Talent Award at Klimt02 and selected to exhibit at Talente – Munich Jewellery Week 2024.

Amélia Marta

These 3 pieces were handcrafted using stone cutting of waste of marble from quarries, crystals and wood. They bring us different sensations such as the coldness of the stone, the warm of the wood, the different weights, they are pieces that you feel very present on your hands. They are an evolution.

The solid, stablished past: “Rocks”; The unstable, cracked Present: “Ruins”; The visionary and tech future: “Skyscraper”.

By incorporating familiar objects and motifs, this piece encourages us to pause and examine the beauty in the little things that often go unnoticed. The meaning of the slug prompts a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of our everyday surroundings, reminding us to find joy and wonder in the simplest of moments. In a world that often feels fast-paced and disconnected, every piece in this collection serves as tangible reminders of the inherent artistry that exists in our everyday lives. Connection to ourselves and the people around us are beautifully manifested into tangible objects that can be lovingly worn on top of our chests, effortlessly communicating a kaleidoscope of emotions and feelings without uttering a single word. These small pieces of jewellery serve as poetic storytellers, weaving intricate tales of love, nostalgia, and belonging, intricately crafted to adorn, both the wearer and the observer. Through their delicate design of realism and often surrealism, these treasures become intimate companions, reminding us of the profound connections we share with ourselves and our loved ones, each gentle touch evoking a symphony of memories and sentiments. As we embrace the ethereal beauty of these jewellery pieces, we embark on a journey of self-expression, filling the space between silences with unspoken sentiments, and cherishing the profound magic of connection that surpasses the limitations of mere words. All sapphires and garnets are ethically sourced and are traceable back to the mine.

Andreia Gabriela Popescu

You can associate a colour with a sound, a shape, a taste or a smell. If you see colours you are surrounded of sensations. I chose yellow, violet, viva magenta, red and purple because these colours inspire the Iris flower. Is one of the messengers of spring. It is the symbol of the freedom of light. In ancient Egypt it was the symbol of strength and eloquence, and in Greek mythology IRIS is the messenger of the gods, it is the rainbow, the link between Earth and Heaven, between gods and people. This is the synesthetic power of colours, blending our human senses to describe emotions, sounds, fillings or sensations. Colours are the simplest tools we have at our disposal to enhance our positive emotions and nurture our well-being, and their effects can manifest instantly.

Andreia Gabriela Popescu is a teacher, designer and jewellery manufacturer who creates unique and sophisticated contemporary pieces since 2010, having multiple award-winning collections at prestigious international jewellery exhibitions and competitions. Her jewellery stands out through daring volumes and innovative surface finishes, offering one's body an atypical jewellery wearability. In her work she uses platinum, gold, silver, gems, next to unconventional materials such as resin and Corian. Her artworks are exhibited in Decorative Art Museums both, in her country and abroad. And last year she was The Award-winner of Artistar Jewels 2022 Grand Prize. As a senior contemporary jewellery lecturer, Andreia curates and organizes her students' exhibitions in international jewellery competitions.

Anna Liu

I was born in a small city in China. When I was younger, I thought there was nothing special about this small town located on the outskirts of the Sichuan Basin – a city of stairs and slopes. Waking up to scenes of mountains that stretched for miles left a clear image in my mind, often sparking nostalgia for happy times with my family. Mountains had become an emotional trigger for me. To me, jewellery serves as a reminder to remember. Perhaps I will forget the way back home, but the mountains will always be there waiting. Maybe your mountain is different from mine, but we all have somewhere to belong.

Anna Liu, a young jewellery designer, holds a BFA from Temple University's Tyler School of Art and a MA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Anna's passion for the process of creation and experimentation has been a driving force in her career. Intrigued by intricate textures and visual nuances of materials, she draws constant inspiration from her surroundings. To Anna, jewellery is not merely an accessory; it's a vessel of memory, a tangible reminder etched in metal. Like the mountains, once a silent witness to her youth, have become an enduring emotional trigger. Each piece she creates is a homage to those scenes that woke her every morning, a testament to the happiness embedded in those slopes. As she forges these pieces, Anna uses her work to invite others to embark on a journey of remembrance. Jewellery, to her, is a conduit to recall the essence of home. As the path back home may fade with time, the jewellery endures—a steadfast reminder, patiently awaiting a return.

Jewellery.
The purpose of the Bachelor's degree in Jewellery is to fill the gap in the possibility of acquiring knowledge in a field specifically related to jewellery, as until now it has not been possible to study only this type of jewellery in Slovenia. The aim of the programme is to provide appropriate knowledge and specific competences in the following areas: industrial, fashion and artistic jewellery.

House on Mars

Our gallery's mission is to offer a collection of meticulously designed and crafted pieces that capture the essence of our times. These objects are a reflection of the present moment. Just as every era in history has been unique, the way artists and designers respond to our current times provides a captivating window into our culture. Our selection encompasses a spectrum of production methods, some rooted in tradition and others boldly innovative, as well as a variety of materials.
These elements come together to create pieces that are playful, opinionated, and often quite bold, especially in the realm of wearable art and jewellery. Each creation conveys the spirit of a new era in “making” and consumption, offering insights into our needs, desires, and occasionally bringing a smile to our faces. The “playful” element is undeniable in our repertoire, where an enchanting obsession with wearable art and jewellery is evident, alongside a deep appreciation for the human desire to create and adorn.
We aim to bring joy. We aim to preserve. At Collect 2021, the gallery artists Anna Ray was awarded the Brookfield Properties Crafts Council Collection Award, and the Crafts Council England acquiring two extensive works of the gallery for their permanent collection. The wonderful “Weave” and “Capture” pieces are now part of the material memory of the Crafts Councils Collection. At Collect 2022, we were awarded the “Outstanding display” award. A celebration of all of our artists and designers and their labour of love!

kunst.wirt.schaft

Since 2002, the kunst.wirt.schaft has devoted itself primarily to the art of jewellery. Our aim is to present current works by Austrian and international artists and to foster an environment in which jewellery becomes a more integral part of contemporary art. We serve this concept by developing and organizing four to six exhibitions a year at the kunst.wirt.schaft, with additional interventions / actions created for various other public spaces. It is also an important platform for young artists, offering graduates the opportunity to present their work within a professional setting. In addition to managing the gallery, our seven resident jewellery artists work on their own projects and commissions in the on-site atelier.
According to the title “Sensation“of this year SlJW exhibition, we decided to submit a selection of seven works. Some of them are made especially for the occasion, some others have been chosen because relevant with the topic. As artists of contemporary jewellery, we are all intrigued with the relations between body and objects, skin and metals, patterns and layers. Each work is a personal interpretation of what has moved and still touches our souls: emotions, reactions, confrontations during phases of our personal life and the world we live in. We have the longing to reach SIJW viewers through our works and share with them the perspectives of our collective.
We are seven women, coming from different countries (Iran, Italy and Austria) working since several years together in Graz. Our multi-cultural collective allows us to investigate and deal with current and critical issues.

Lapidarium

Lapidarium is a unique platform in Croatia, a gathering point of international and Croatian designers in their mission to create modern jewellery collections using both traditional and modern techniques and materials. Superior processing technology, sophisticated design and individualised style characterise every collection resulting from their jewellery making skills. Lapidarium has been present both in the national and international markets for a number of years now. They cooperate with renowned jewellery designers and have an adequate production potential. The cooperation with various authors is often spontaneous and rather natural than sterile.
Each author incorporates a part of his or her personalities and thoughts into their jewellery and hence such jewellery is not only a piece of a precious metal but the essence of emotions reflecting the author’s inner personality woven into each item. As the love cannot be produced but have to be found, the jewellery they create is likewise not just manufactured but they disclose a part of their soul through a piece of precious metal. To find a piece of jewellery that suits you best is not an easy task unless you use more senses and not only your vision but, through their website, they will try to bring you closer to what they are doing.

Minghui Zhou

Minghui’s graduation collection takes inspiration from relationships between society and nature; specifically illegal fishing, where – frequently – the wrong fishing gear not only threatens fish resources but also the ecological environment. She focuses on the transformation of metal through the application of textures, colours, shapes and patterns. Varying forms of fishing cages and tied and bound fish are represented with the aim to bring more attention to the issue of fish resources.

Contemporary jewellery artist Minghui Zhou graduated from the MA Jewellery and Related Products course at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University in 2023.

Inspired by the sunlight welcoming the start of a daily journey, her fine contemporary jewellery project Light represents warmness, softness and the relaxing feeling of sunlight. The optical phenomena of light have been designed and crafted through the traditional process of Keum boo using 24k gold foil fused onto sterling silver. Shimmering sunshine and rays depicted by hand engraving complete the impression of sunlight.

Yeonjie Kim is a fine jewellery maker and a metalworker from South Korea who graduated from the MA Jewellery and Related Products course at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham City University in 2023. She also holds a BFA (a Bachelor of Fine Arts) from the Department of Crafts, Sungshin Women's University, Korea.

Zidi Gong

The collection “Seeds Will Grow” delves into the growing rift between humans and their food sources amidst escalating industrialisation and the information era. Inspired by environmental ethics, the collection advocates for a biocentric view, asserting the intrinsic value of all life and promoting an egalitarian respect for all beings.

Zidi combines metals, biomaterials, and plant seeds using techniques such as metal weaving, folding and enamelling. Through these pieces, she aims to reignite the connection between humans and plant-based foods. Ultimately, Zidi sees her work as a means to inspire exploration into sustainable food futures, urging individuals to cultivate a symbiotic relationship with their food.

Zidi Gong utilises a diverse array of materials including jewellery, ceramics and glass to explore the relationship between human society and the natural world. Her work is inspired by daily life and the intricate dynamics between humans and nature, focusing on our roles within it and our impact on it. She believes in the power of traditional techniques in contemporary design, combined with new materials to push artistic boundaries. Her creations aim to engage viewers on an emotional level and stimulate “conscious awareness”, promoting a closer and more equal perspective towards nature. Zidi graduated from the BA Jewellery and Objects course at Birmingham City University and is currently studying for her Masters at the Royal College of Art in London.

Jasna Hrovatin

Collection: nature as inspiration and co-creator of jewellery
The jewellery pieces presented are connected by a common thread: co-creation with nature, where nature is the inspiration and co-creator of the design solutions.

Jasna Hrovatin, Coral Symphony, necklace
The central element of the jewellery "Coral Symphony" is made up of variously sized pieces of coral, which connect our emotions with the memory of the sea. Most people associate the sea with the sound of the waves, with relaxation and with the colourfulness of life in the water, which is symbolised by the jewellery presented. When we put on the jewellery, the crashing of the corals against each other makes a gentle sound reminiscent of the sound of the sea.
The necklace is also adorned with two turquoise beads with a distinctive turquoise colour and a natural, slightly reticulated pattern. Turquoise is a talisman of good luck, success and creativity. It is an excellent crystal for meditation. It has a calming effect on our feelings and puts us in a harmonious state.

Jasna Hrovatin, Turquoise Harmony, earrings
The basic element of the earrings is a turquoise-coloured shell in three different sizes. The rounded edges of the individual elements make them pleasant to the touch, despite their pointed shape.

Jasna Hrovatin, Lirična reka, necklace
A softly falling and undulating necklace, reminiscent of the meanders of a river, telling romantic stories full of passion and sentiment.

Jasna Hrovatin graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in 1987 under Prof. Niko Kralj. She received the Uniles Prize for her diploma thesis. After graduating, she took a job as a young researcher with Prof. Kralj. She obtained her Master's degree in 1990 and her PhD in 1993, making her the youngest doctor in Slovenia and the first woman to obtain a PhD at the Faculty of Architecture. After completing her PhD, she joined the Faculty of Biotechnology, Department of Wood Engineering. She has lectured at the Faculty of Forestry, ALUO and at the doctoral programme of the NTF. Since 2009 she has been working at the Faculty of Design as Vice-Dean for Research and Head of the Chair for Furniture Design. She is involved in interior design and design. She has won numerous awards at furniture fairs, as well as prizes and awards at national and international competitions. She has exhibited in Ljubljana, Belgrade, Cologne, Copenhagen and Frankfurt. She has 8 European designs and 7 patents. She has written 3 scientific monographs. For her monograph Niko Kralj she was nominated for the Plečnik Award and the "Trend" Award.

Mojca Perše

Collection:
Second Life of Film
The world is changing faster and faster and many of the things that have marked our lives are now disappearing. But we can reuse them.
Film as moving image, a fusion of tape and light.
Film as an illusion of space, of time, of the experience of emotions.
I capture and freeze feelings in a moment and in time. With the jewellery collection made of film and VHS tapes, I invite the wearer to enter "into the film" through the film tapes and records.
The film becomes a "moving image" again and the user becomes an actor or spectator. The play of light and shadows on the filmstrip conjures up that familiar magic of film scoring and film watching, because there is no film without it.
I invite you to STEP INTO THE FILM!

Mojca Perše, born in 1970, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in 1997. She is a full-time teacher at the Faculty of Design and also a Vice-Dean for Artistic Activities and Head of the Creative Industries Lab. She passes on her theoretical and practical knowledge to students in various subjects. She is a tutor of theses, conducts competitions, workshops, coordinates student internships and participates as a member of the study committee, as well as a member of the Eco-school and the international expert committee at the Wood Festival. As a researcher, she participates in scientific research work. She is involved in interior design and design. Photography and artistic expression are her passion, being also interested in creative approaches as it allows her to express herself artistically in different fields. She has had several solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad.

Petra Kocjančič

ParquetOkras
The ParquetOkras collection is made from the remnants of oak parquet flooring and expresses the warmth and character of wood in its purest form. Each piece carries not only an aesthetic value but also a story of renewable resources and sustainability. With every wear of ParquetOkras, the wearer exudes both his or her personal style and awareness of the importance of protecting our environment.

Petra Kocjančič completed her Master's degree at the Faculty of Design, where in 2019 she was elected Senior Lecturer in Design and Interior Design. She is a lecturer in the field of interior design and public space, a tutor for thesis projects, a member of the study committee, a member of the Eco-Committee, organises and manages the website of the Faculty of Design. She is the Head of the Academy for Lifelong Learning. Due to her work in a major Bureau of Architecture for many years she is experienced in the field of planning and design. She has worked on numerous projects in the field of interior design and architecture as well as visual communication.

Anna Ray

I am excited by the sculptural and fluid potential of stitch and textiles. The notion of play is central to my practice and these new “Technicolour” wearables exemplify the joy and excitement that I find in the creative process. Each piece is formed from padded, machine and hand stitched, digitally printed fabric. The necklaces can be adapted and embellished with tassels that may be tied on as desired to create clusters of stripy bobbles or more classic fan arrangements. The long necklace strands can also be linked and curled together by the tassels, to form diff¬erent shapes across the chest of the wearer. Taking inspiration from childhood memories of Technicolor movies, like the Wizard of Oz and Singin’ in the Rain, these pieces are a visual treat.

Barbara McFadyen

Through the traditions and language of jewellery, my work explores the many techniques and challenges of enamelling and metalsmithing, as I seek to embody moments of time, layers of memories, or expressions of beauty and mystery. My inspirations are deeply connected to the beauty and power of the natural world with its intricate details and captivating patterns. I believe the sense of awe encountered while observing the flux of nature, cycles of life, and stirring beauty within nature can serve to remind us of our place in the world and help find new meaning beneath the layers of the everyday hectic. I hope that what I create will come into someone else’s life and shift the balance of their world a little further into the direction of beauty.

Barbara McFadyen is a metalsmith and enamellist who has been designing jewellery in gold, silver, and enamel for nearly five decades. Barbara received her MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University and BA from Eckerd College. Her award-winning work is nationally recognized through exhibitions with the American Crafts Council, the Smithsonian Institution, SNAG, and the Enamellist Society and galleries throughout the US, Canada and Japan. Barbara’s work is found in the collections of the Metal Museum, the Mint Museum, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art, the Crocker Museum, and Yale University Art Gallery. In addition to her love of enamelling, Barbara finds inspiration through teaching others, and has given workshops at fine craft schools throughout the US, Japan and Italy. Currently, Barbara serves as secretary on the Board of Directors for The Enamellist Society and maintains her studio practice in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Ben Cooke-Akaiwa

I have had a long-standing love affair with colour in my work. Colour is a safe place for me, and I often return to it. Like a jeweller to a diamond, I cannot seem to help myself. Metals have a colour to them, yet feel largely colourless to me, the dull grey of the steel I work with begs to be covered. I add the lacking vibrancy through enamels, spray paint, and powder coating. This heavily saturated colour palette challenges the innately austere surface of the steel. This work was developed during my time as an Artist-in-Residence at the Baltimore Jewellery Centre in late 2020. The surfaces of these brooches reference mid-century colour field painting. The resulting abstracted landscapes do not reference reality but still evoke a sense of place. Perhaps the side of a building, a series of hills, or a dead-end road.

Ben is a jeweller and metalsmith in Bloomington, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University in 2019 with a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewellery Design. He has supplemented his education through workshops at Arrowmont Craft School and short apprenticeship in Japan. He has participated in artist residencies at the Baltimore Jewellery Center and Arrowmont. Ben has exhibited his work internationally, in The United States, The Netherlands, Germany, and Canada.

Courtney DiMare

My approach to enamel is intuitive and expressive. I embrace its fragile and fickle nature while trusting how strong it can be. I find the balance through multiple layers of copper and enamel. The textures on the surface become micro landscapes that one can investigate closely as it guides the eye through the piece. Unified under a blanket of white enamel, these landscapes are reminiscent of the preciousness of an untouched snowscape. Temporary and ever-changing.

Courtney DiMare is a United States based artist currently working in Denton, Texas. She completed her MFA focusing in Metalsmithing and Jewellery in 2022 at University of North Texas. She received her BFA from Maine College of Art in 2013. Courtney has exhibited her work nationally including the Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, Illinois and the Krikorian Gallery in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her work most recently has been showcased in multiple two person shows across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Her creative research has been awarded and funded by the Belvedere Grant and the Toulouse Graduate Research Award. She is currently an adjunct professor and has plans to complete an onsite research fellowship at the Winterthur Museum.

Daniel DiCaprio

My work is an exploration of transitional moments. The process of adaptation and evolution informs my practice by highlighting the instant when something is forced to change. I seek to emphasize this moment of intersection in particular and maximize the tension it creates. Referencing what we are and where we came from, the pieces are created to articulate the tenuous balance between survival and destruction that all life forms maintain in the world.

Daniel DiCaprio is the Associate Professor of Metalwork and Jewellery at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He received his MFA in Metal Design from East Carolina University and was trained as a goldsmith at Hoover and Strong in Richmond Virginia. He has taught workshops on wood carved jewellery throughout the United States. A few of these include: Indiana University, University of North Texas, Virginia Commonwealth University, Metalwerx, Pocosin Arts, Penland School of Craft, and Haystack Mountain School. Daniel’s work is represented by Charon Kransen Arts in New York City and Bilk Gallery in Australia. He has exhibited work at Sculptural Objects Functional Art (SOFA) in Chicago annually since 2008. His work has also been exhibited internationally in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Japan, Korea and China.

Sarah Loch-Test

My enamelled jewellery depicts the impacts of nostalgia and neglect of industry and urbanization. I also examine how processes like mining and oil drilling impact and alter the environment. Cleaner sources of energy, such as wind, represent a new era of precious American industry. They have the potential to provide a returned sense of manufacturing pride. Wind turbines are new monumental structures that decorate our landscape, however clean energy is also a threat to those nostalgic for steel mills and coal mines. In contrast to these monumental structures, some of my pieces zoom into areas of industrial architecture, focusing on intimate and obscure details. These pieces are more ambiguous as to their source of inspiration. I use various techniques to make images permanent in enamel, including the use of decals and laser etching. A range of enamelling techniques allows me to paint precisely or make an abstract design or pattern.

Sarah studied at Kent State and East Carolina universities, where she embraced the art of enamelling. Her time spent living in Pittsburgh, a resilient city in a post-industrial era, continues to influence her metalwork. Having taken up trail running, she gets plenty of inspiration while traversing the landscape. Sarah currently works as the Metals Technician at the University of North Texas. Her work has been exhibited regionally and nationally, and is in the Enamel Foundation’s permanent collection, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art, the Crocker Museum and the Yale University Art Gallery.

Anne Luz Castellanos

When I was a child, we used to play the piano – my mother, my three sisters, and I. Those were times of joy and enjoyment, but now only the memories of those concert days remain, memories of that beautiful grand piano that I always wanted to have, nostalgic memories that are etched in my mind.
Some time ago, I came into possession of pieces from a destroyed piano. When I began working with the keys, I found myself in a terrible conflict about using the white keys because they were made of ivory, and knowing that I had in my hands pieces of "remains" from elephants made me shudder. Over time, I realised that I had a new opportunity in my hands. In March 2023, another abandoned piano came into my possession, also made with ivory and ebony, and my quest once again found a path.
Reviving damaged objects that cost the lives of so many and fell into oblivion to give them a new chance became my goal. Giving a voice to extinct species and those in danger of disappearing has been my driving force to continue in the pursuit of expression through these pieces.
Each transformed piano key becomes a symbol of the thin line between life and death, a reminder of the responsibility we have as human beings to preserve and protect the biodiversity of our planet.

ARTENTIA (Maria Garcia)

This work is a journey into the world of Shibari, the ancient Japanese art of knots and ropes. Our artistic project is a profound celebration of sensations, emotions and connections. Through the meticulous art of rope bondage, we delve into the intricate tapestry of human relationships. Each carefully crafted knot, the friction of the rope, the pressure, symbolise the connections we forge with one another, intertwining threads of passion, vulnerability, and intimacy. We explore the delicate balance between control and surrender, strength and vulnerability. Embark on this artistic endeavour with us and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Shibari, where the beauty, sensations and intricacy of emotions come to life.

With roots in Greek mythology, the aegis (aigis) originally referred to a goatskin or breastplate that conferred supernatural physical protection on its wearer.
Humans have always striven for stability and safety. We instinctively seek physical, emotional, economic and social protections to calm our existential fears and insecurities.
Having these protections, which are our modern-day goatskins/breastplates, elicits the psychological and physiological responses of calmness and ease, and allows us to lead lives with meaning, agency and potential.
This collection is a study of the effects of the aegis on the human psyche. The artworks depict the primal and abstract human needs of safety and security as tactile, ornamental, protective shields.

Immersed in the fantastical, these jewels create a tactile wonderland. As you wear them, feel the fluidity in design, dancing with your every move, reminiscent of the playfulness of fish scales or the sun's reflection on a rippling sea, offering a touch of magic adorning your neck. The lively interplay of light and colour sparks curiosity and draws attention effortlessly. It causes a sensation! These pieces evoke feelings of whimsy and enchantment. The fantastical creatures they conjure transport you to a realm of childlike fantasy, bringing daydreams to life. It's not just jewellery; it's a sensorial feast, inviting touch, sight, and imagination to converge in an extraordinary experience.

Militsa Milenkova

Inspired by medieval torture devices used for detention and control, the piece is a response to female oppression. It explores the complex relationships of gender roles and patriarchal systems. Intending to evoke feelings of discomfort, the artist uses her hair as the torturing component. Challenging the notion that although hair is assumed to be a sign of beauty, once detached from the body, it becomes unappealing. Once locked around the neck, the bearer can’t escape being tortured by the tickling hair and the feeling of aversion towards it. As soon as it is taken off, freedom is achieved.

CARA

Envision a world reborn from the ashes of chaos. This collection's narrative weaves the tale of resilience and reconstruction, mirroring life's journey of growth through challenge. Each piece whispers the mantra of dynamism, inspiring wearers to harness their inner strength and emerge stronger with each layer of experience.

CARA Jewellery Design is a reflection of my artistic journey, bridging the worlds of engineering and contemporary jewellery with a deep passion for artistic expression. I find my creative sanctuary in the heart of Bucharest, Romania, at Assamblage School. Drawing inspiration from the elegance of silver, the allure of gold, and the rugged beauty of concrete, my designs are a testament to the harmonious coexistence of these materials. With a foundation in engineering, I craft wearable art that seamlessly blends the precious with the unconventional, capturing profound human emotions in every piece. My dedication to meticulous craftsmanship mirrors the complexity of human feelings. Each creation tells a story, embodying strength, vulnerability, and the sheer dynamism of existence. Through CARA, I celebrate the essence of contemporary jewellery, handcrafting each piece in my personal workshop. Silver, gold, and concrete intertwine to form jewellery that not only adorns but also resonates with the depth of human sentiment. My journey is an ongoing exploration of the artistry and innovation within the world of contemporary jewellery. It's a path marked by the continuous pursuit of uniqueness, the quest for meaningful design, and the relentless commitment to storytelling. Through dialogues, exhibitions, and collaborations, I aspire to elevate the world’s understanding of contemporary jewellery. I believe in the power of engagement, education, and celebration of this art form, not only as an adornment but as a reflection of our ever-evolving emotions and experiences.

Cleopatra Cosulet

t e r r a r i u m
Similar and yet so different, we’re all recipients of Soul, carrying it during our lifetime, enriching it, sharing it. Human nature is being shaped by everything around, and its response touches the surroundings, changing them, in a recurring evolutionary process. We’re part of everything, both actors and viewers of the great show of life. Preserving it in all its forms must become a conscious goal, for we need nature to continue our trip further to future.

Following her call for contemporary expression through jewellery, Romanian artist Cleopatra Cosulet attended Assamblage-Contemporary Jewellery School Bucharest and Krama Institute Athens courses and workshops; also, Ruudt Peters’s “Soul Now” workshop in Ravenstein, Holland. Her collections were showcased in exhibitions organised by Assamblage (Bucharest, Romania), Galerie Biro (Munich, Germany), Tincal Lab (Porto, Portugal), Autor Platform (Bucharest, Romania) and international jewellery fairs such as Author Bucharest, JOYA Barcelona and SIERAAD Amsterdam. Each piece is a concrete expression of a wandering thought and they're milestones in personal search of self.

Contemporia

Kaolin jewellery collection

The conscious starting point for Kaolin jewellery collection were the materials chosen for its making, porcelain and metal. We wanted to give them a voice – just by looking at the objects you can feel the fragility of the porcelain and the tension and strength of the metal structure. We joined this two primordial, strong and even opposite materials, metal and porcelain, so different in structure, finish and appearance, to highlight and enrich each other.

Contemporia is one of the first creative studios dedicated to contemporary jewellery in Romania, established in 2014 by Ioana Streza and Alex Burlacu. The team is composed of 5 members with backgrounds in the fields of visual arts and architecture who are involved in both the creative and the manufacturing processes. Contemporia jewellery pieces are being made in the studio`s own workshop in small series or as unique pieces, combining traditional crafts, primarily metalsmithing, with contemporary techniques and technologies. They experiment with less conventional materials such as wood, plastic, ceramics, textile.

Cziko Valentina

Allan Pease defined this behavior as best learned by women. Hope men are agreeing with this, as they have their feminine side as well. Seducing, hesitant, melancholic, passionate, dignified, cute, sensuous, daring ... and all this without precise words. Femineity is never static, not even when asleep. Brancusi synthesized this through his creation: Miss Pogany, Principessa X, Muse asleep. All these works inspired conceiving this year's collection, called “Body language”, expressing feminine sensuality in all its splendor, absolute charm for all around it. It possesses the charming attraction, radiating from inside, communicating, alluring.

Cziko Valentina is the contemporary jewelry designer who creates out of passion for metals
and precious stones, who gives life to metal. She is touched by everything that inspires her,
creating unique pieces or collections in small series. For the event Slovenian Jewelry Week 2024 she created a new series from the Body Language collection, under the theme of the event
“Sensations”.

Igor Kalita

The Fairy Flowers collection invites you to immerse yourself in the world of magic and emotions that flowers evoke. Inspired by the beauty and diversity of nature, each piece of jewellery in this collection is the embodiment of the emotions we feel when our eyes meet their splendour. Whether we are celebrating, loving, sad or praying, we do so with flowers in our hands.
Flowers evoke beautiful feelings because they are perfection itself. And the world of flowers – delicate and vibrant, whimsical and extraordinarily beautiful, in textured metal and beautiful amethysts, topaz and citrine. From delicate hues to vibrant colours, from whimsical shapes to classic lines, each piece in the collection expresses the feelings of joy, peace, love and admiration that flowers bring to our lives. Whether it is an elegant necklace that plays with light around the neck or a ring that emphasises femininity and grace, each piece of jewellery in the collection is designed to remind us of the magic that surrounds us in the world of flowers.

Igor Kalita is a Ukrainian jewellery designer now creating in Romania.

My work embodies the majesty and beauty of nature. My passion for nature, its shapes and textures has become the basis for creating unique jewellery that is inspired by the beauty of flowers, the texture of tree bark, leaves, earth and sand. Each piece is an amalgamation of the aesthetics of nature and feminine beauty, designed to emphasize its majesty. It is important for me to do what I love, and creating jewellery brings me not only pleasure, but also the opportunity to convey my admiration and delight in the beauty of the world in each of my creations.

There is something painful about pearls

I took the title from the album All strings detached. The title itself is telling. I worked with pearls many years ago when I was working with human skin imprints. At that time they were in the context of missing pearls. Now I have depicted pearls that have come out of the body. I used Akoya pearls, South Sea and Tahitian pearls, silver and gold.

Aleš Hočevar

A Roman bangle cuff bracelet inspired by ancient Roman mythology.

The snake was a commonly used motive in jewelry design, as it was believed to bring protection, growth, fertility and health to the person who wears it. Garnet was also believed to have powerful healing properties and that could protect the wearer from harm. One of the ancient Roman jewelries techniques was granulation which was commonly used in earrings, and bangles.

- Material silver 925/000
- Gilded
- Garnet
- Cubic zirconia (CZ)

Aleš Hočevar first encountered jewelry design and making at the Waldorf Gymnasium. He is now working on making unique and bespoke jewelry. He often combines different materials such as precious metals and gems and materials* such as wood, glass, leather, etc.

He often keeps symmetry in his designs and the lines are mainly clean and geometric. In the manufacture of jewelry, he combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with the most modern techniques and approaches used in the jewelry industry today.

Anže Mrak

The jewelry comes from the theme of video games and science fiction fashion accessories combined with sportswear. My idea comes from the accessories adding to the wearer's physical prowess, like in the video game Death Stranding, which is the starting point for a large part of my master's thesis. The first step of production is visualization in the Blender software, then there is a plan for laser cutting made in Adobe Illustrator, and after cutting, certain elements are curved with the help of an industrial hair dryer. Finally, I add straps to attach to the body and screw the cut pieces together. The finished products are foldable pieces that are attached to the body with the help of adjustable straps, but at the same time they can also be attached to clothing from the collection. The pieces include a bracelet, a breastplate and a leg brace. Regardless of the fact that the pieces are not classically qualified as jewelry (ring, necklace, bracelet), I consider them body jewelry because they decorate the body and do not add any function.

Anže Mrak is a student at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Natural Sciences. He started the studies of textile and clothing design in 2017. In 2020 he received his bachelor’s degree in textile and clothing design and is currently working on his master’s thesis. Focusing the development of collections and projects on 3D digital design, he is currently employed at Tronog, which focuses on 3D visualisation and digital solutions.

In the year 2019 he was a part of the team styling the fashion show for the Faculty of Natural sciences at Ljubljana Fashion Week, and in the year 2020 he had his own exhibition, displaying his bachelor’s collection. With his Little Black Dress, he won the second prize at the Little Black Dress competition hosted by ELLE Slovenia. With Neža Knez, he developed an AR filter for the 2021 Light Guerilla festival in Ljubljana. He was a part of the Forma Viva jewelry exhibition in Kostanjevica (open door exhibition), where he exhibited 3D printed jewelry.

Digital visualisations of clothing and accessories are a main focus of his work. Mostly he takes inspiration from science fiction and elements of UI/UX design.

Arijana Gadžijev

Slovanka, printed textile jewelry for body and home by Arijana Gadžijev

Printed textile jewelry for body and home Slovanka (eng. Slavic woman) is inspired by Slavic folk art, its floral patterns and motifs. While researching and admiring the plants used as typical folklore elements, I drew the patterns for printing and designed the shapes of jewelry.

As a textile designer I feel responsible to create small, sustainable and handmade collections like Slovanka. It is a “slow” collection, a tribute to art and craftsmanship, as each motif is first drawn by hand and later reworked on the computer, and in the final stage the fabric cuts are sewn by hand.

The patterns are carefully matched on the sides and edges, and the flat geometric shapes are printed on both sides so the piece can be worn on either side. The design consists of geometric shapes such as cubes, tetrahedrons, or hexagons, which are made as individual pieces that can be worn separately or strung together as a necklace or brooch. The pieces can be the same colour or different colour combinations.

The printed patterns are made with sublimatic printing on white, carefully selected and easy-care woven fabric left over from previous collections. There is no washing needed in the print process and the only left over from the print is the recyclable paper used for the packaging.

The jewelry is light and soft and does not contain fillers, so although it deforms when squeezed, it can easily be returned to its original shape. It can be worn on the body or as a home accessory - it can be placed on the living room table or hung on the bedroom wall, as a personal object, regardless of gender or age. It is versatile and can give a new character to the space we live in. As a reminder of the importance of folk cultural heritage, it praises the beauty of nature in a simple but sincere way and shows the interdependence between nature and man. I believe cultural heritage is our cultural DNA, a part of an individual's identity. It is a constant source of inspiration that I like to explore and express through the modern life we lead.

In my work I draw inspiration from nature, folklore, storytelling and also real-life stories, along with art, music, movies and the contemporary lifestyle of the modern world, with all the consumerism and consumption that comes with it. With this in mind, I began to design things on a smaller scale and became interested in so-called "mini-textiles", with textile jewelry for the body and home being the main artistic medium. And that's how Slovanka, my first textile jewelry collection, was born.

Arijana Gadžijev, M. A., is a textile designer and artist from Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is employed as an assistant at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Department of Textiles, Graphics Arts and Design. She works both independently and in collaboration with other designers and artists, taking part in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad.

Since 2019 her main artistic medium is expressed through printed textile jewelry for body and home. In 2021 she received the BIGSEE International Product Design Award 2021 for the printed textile jewelrySlovanka. Her textile jewelry collections were exhibited at Textile Art Biennial BIEN 2021, Blickfang Wien 2021 at MAK –Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna, Slovenian Jewelry Week 2022, Milano Jewelry Week 2022, international traveling exhibition “On the move, jewels” in Enschede and Madrid. Her work was featured in Arte Y Joya Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2021/22 and 22/23. She is a member of Klimt02.

In her work she combines both manual and digital design techniques and likes to explore how the pattern works on a particular textile form, how it moves around a particular 3D object, how it fits into the seam and how it can visually change the image of the form. Coming from a textile design background, she thinks of jewelry as something soft and light. She also likes the idea of a product being versatile: as a necklace with a pendant, other times as a brooch, and sometimes as a wall decoration.

CITY SILK

is a unique silk collection of jewellery and men's decorative silk handkerchief ,
wrapped in the veil of originality and mystical perfection that nature bestow upon us.
The special line is made from raw silk cocoons and from silk thread extracted from these very
cocoons and is being developed within the framework of a scientific research project on
sustainable sericulture in collaboration with the Institute of Silk and Sericulture.
With the urban silkworm experiment and the exhibition "ISS_RLB Laboratory: silkworms &
silkworm farming", we showcased the development cycle of 10,000 silkworms in the E2RD
Gallery - from eggs hatching to cocooning and the unique two-dimensional weaving of artistic
sculptures - opening up a new "out of the box" view of sericulture on a broader European scale.
The collection carries the certificate "Private standard issued by ISS_RLB, proving that the raw
silk and silk products were produced in Slovenia".
The Venus lace earrings and the Venus Boy men's decorative handkerchief are particularly eye-
catching. Both products are made from hand-spun silk thread and carry the certificate of special
significance of Slovenian cultural heritage - the geographical indication "Idrijska lace".

VENUS EARRINGS

The exciting shape of the Venera earring exudes delicacy at first glance, and the selected materials
and craftsmanship empower her "curves" with an even greater meaning.
Venus' production technique is hand-hooked Idrija lace - a centuries-old Slovenian cultural
heritage, which, with the subtle interweaving of thousands of threads, is brought closer to
contemporary urban Venus, which retains its authentic, antique and "green" character.
The Venus silk lace earrings are made from hand-spun silk thread (by Maja Botolin Vaupotič)
joined from 115 raw cocoons.
Venus Boy, men's decorative silk handkerchief.
The unique Venus Boy silk handkerchief is a special treat for men's suits. It is woven (by Alenka
Rupnik) from hand-spun silk thread, its edge is carefully embroidered with a Venus, Idria lace.

Andreia Gabriela Popescu

SPECTRUM Collection

They are all around us and influence us almost without realizing it. We perceive the colors by looking at them, and then they penetrate our hearts. Colors intertwine with emotions and influence our reason and behavior. They influence us mentally, physically and emotionally. The moment we focus on colors, we begin to understand what we are feeling. And by focusing on what we feel, we can get to know each other better. There are small sculptures in which the stone positioned in the palm transforms its wearer into a receiver but also a transmitter of the healing color.

Andreia Gabriela Popescu is a teacher, designer and jewelry manufacturer who creates unique and sophisticated contemporary pieces since 2010, having multiple award-winning collections at prestigios international jewelry exhibitions and competitions. Her jewelry stands out through daring volumes and innovative surface finishes, offering one's body an atypical jewelry wearability. In her work she uses platinum, gold, silver, gems and semiprecious stones, next to unconventional materials such as resin.

Horia Câlțea

The Horia Câlțea jewellery brand is his own personal project through which he brings to life his own vision on jewellery, constantly being surprised by the new innovations of it."It is not necessarily a collection. It can be better defined as a series of pieces in which the motive of silver and brass chunks is repeated. The brass balls, through their geometrical form and gold-like color, in combination and contrast with the purity of silver create a refined visual effect. This is what I try to visualize with my creations…."

In 2015, at the age of 45, Horia Câlțea decided to follow his dream. He redefined his path, he left his job and dedicated his entire attention to his old passion, jewellery. He followed courses at the jewellery school in Cluj-Napoca, where he had the occasion to cultivate his creativity through means that combine the methods of traditional work with contemporary expression.

sTep Up Collection

This collection represents a new sTep in my creative exploration of silver and concrete jewelry. Wax carving made my imagination dare a lot more this time, sTepping Up my creative work experience. The story behind this collection comes from my latest travels to Italy. The old piazetta stairs with their uneven and imperfect sTeps fascinate me. The concrete represents strength and durability over time, while the touch of yellow and pink gold reminds us of Italy's rich heritage.

CARA is actually Andreea CARAstoian, who has been passionate about jewelry and geometrical shapes from childhood. I joined the basic courses organized by Assamblage Contemporary Jewelry School. With my first silver and concrete pieces I was selected to participate to the 2020 First Edition of Romanian Jewelry Week. This experience proved to be an important milestone in my future development as a jewelry designer.

Cleopatra Cosulet

Incipit Collection

Today cannot turn into tomorrow without finding its end and becoming yesterday. But does it really end? Isn't it still there, finding itself everywhere inside the structure of what it is and is to be? The end thus becomes the beginning, the beginning, the end, in a cyclical movement always contained by everything that exists. How we choose to process this fact is the result of our individuality and free will. Thereby, each one of us evolves predetermined by a multitude of factors, but conditioned by the way we interact with them.

Following her call for contemporary expression through jewelry, romanian artist Cleopatra Cosulet attended Assamblage-Contemporary Jewelry School Bucharest and Krama Institute Athens courses and workshops and also Ruudt Peters’s “Soul Now” workshop in Ravenstein, Holland. Her collections were showcased in exhibitions organised by Assamblage (Bucharest, Romania), Galerie Biro (Munich, Germany), Tincal Lab (Porto, Portugal), Autor Platform (Bucharest, Romania) and international jewelry fairs such as Author Bucharest, JOYA Barcelona and SIERAAD Amsterdam.

Izabella Petrut

A love story

This is a love story as I remember it. It is about me being the spectator of a love story that has been going on for many years. When we remember things, they are fuzzy, inaccurate, not true sometimes and not in the chronological order. We mostly remember the feelings.
By using the remains of some inline-skates (rollerblades) he used, the old-fashioned, out of style, sweat and broken, I take advantage of all the material and emotional qualities they are giving me, extracting the value from the objects (skates) and refining then by changing their state, separating it into material and emotion. I dissected the memories of this love story by taking apart the skates, some of them violently, others with care, focusing on two components: the wheals and the laces. The wheals are spinning just like love make you feel, while the laces are there to bind and combine, to boil, to tangle and make a mess.
I use only one color on each piece. The colors are the ones from the skates he had – denim blue, white, dark grey. This way the pieces are dematerialized, put in another context and joined into a new object – a piece of jewelry. The brooches were made thinking this are the jewels that stay closer to the heart and the neckpieces because they resemble the most to hugs.
These pieces of jewelry are an accumulation of feelings, memories, years that have been left behind. There is no history, just a story.

Izabella Petrut is a contemporary jewelry designer. She has acquired practical and theoretical skills by completing a Bachelors’ (2007) and a Masters’ (2009) degree in Design at the University of Arts and Design, Cluj-Napoca, Romania. She has graduated the GJ3 Specialisation program at Alchimia, School of contemporary Jewelry, Florence, Italy (2012) with professor Ruudt Peters. At the moment she conducts her doctoral studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

Adela Schicker

All is vanity, and what could be vainer than jewelry.

The series of rings called “All is vanity, and what could be vainer than jewelry”is inspired by one of the most cantered topics of baroque’s worldview, so called “Vanitas”. Vanitas is described as beauty and aesthetic pleasure penetrated by awareness about incessant disintegration and death.

“I deal with the fragility and process of disintegration of jewelry in my work. I created a series of rings, which will once fall apart, if they are worn. The rings are composed of metal parts, raw semiprecious stones and a few fragile materials, which are held together only by soap. Fragility and ephemerality in general confront us with the question of senescence and death. That is the reason why I use materials closely connected with human life and body (as soap, dust and humus). Dust and humus symbolize physical decay and the soap refers a futile struggle with it.”

The series of ring "All is Vanity" to refer to the fragility and finiteness of the human body but also to the issue of sustainability in the jewelry field.

The contrast of density and value of used materials is important. Rings through atypical interconnection of materials, usually used for a traditional jewelry making (metals and minerals), with fragile and ephemeral materials, are glorifying freedom of expression in contemporary approach to jewelry.

Adéla Schicker (*1984) studied painting and fine jewelry in Prague at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. Her artistry has also been influenced by her studies under conceptual jewelry designer Vratislav Novák in Pilsen and at Sheffield Hallam University in United Kingdom. Her jewelry is sought-after for its offbeat approach and intimate message.

Ana Baldini

This ring is a composition of three primordial marine creatures, made using traditional silversmithing techniques such as wax sculpting and casting, cutting, soldering and shaping sheet metal.

It is difficult to place it in time; It has a surface which was coloured with fire, giving it an aura of having been found buried in the earth or under the sea. Like an object retrieved from a shipwreck, this ring appears to have had layers stripped back by the water.

Just as the ocean can swallow a ship (or a continent) whole, so our consciousness can be submerged by the deep waters of our psyche. This ring is an amulet which will not let us forget this.

Ana makes everything from scratch, including her own precious metal alloys and solder. She doesn’t over-polish her pieces, as she likes how imperfections can tell the story of how they were made. It has been said of her pieces that they unite past and future, at once harking back to something ancestral, as if unearthed by an archaeologist, whilst also having a contemporary and ludic quality. Her depictions of animals have a sense of humour and a certain theatricality, reminding one of ancient toys or stage props.

Ana’s work is strongly influenced by nature, both in a scientific and symbolic sense. She is particularly interested in how we draw on it as a source for our systems of social and individual symbologies. Ana aims to create jewellery which is not only an adornment but also a symbolic object to the person who wears it, perhaps marking an important moment in one’s life and becoming a part of their everyday.

Ana has a BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art in London, where she worked with film and installation. She subsequently worked as a Production Designer, designing film sets. Her work has been featured on the BBC as well as Sundance Film Festival and the BFI Film Festival amongst others.

In 2020, after her son was born, she moved to Portugal, where she’s currently based, and retrained as a jeweller under the tutelage of the Portuguese goldsmith Joao P Melo.

Anastasia Koutsampela - Lefflow

Wheat

The inspiration for this collection was the ¨wheat¨. Τhe nature, the labor of the earth and the fruit production are concepts inherent in the instinct of survival, and this is what I am dealing with. The wheat represents for me an ancient fruit / symbol of human survival, which in the Greek tradition of my homeland was connected with the great feast of “Theros”, the ritual and the customs of the harvest. I have images of its threshing, its scent, its colors, its taste and its smell up to the harvest, strongly imprinted in my memory from my land of origin the Thessalian plain. Also, in ancient Greek religion the precious wheat had its goddess Dimitra, who gave people the fruits of the earth. I approached and designed the shape of the wheat and finally the whole composition, in abstract forms, to clearly refer to the fruit, but not to try to resemble it by a naturalistic way.

Natasa Koutsampela studied law at the Democritus University of Thrace, but never gave up her natural talent for painting and fine arts. She has attended workshops under the artists, Papiotis Athanasios (1987), Xristakis Giannis (1995-1996) and Maravas Lazaros (2003-2004).
She lives and works in the town of Larissa, (central Greece).
Since 2011 she began to deal and experiment with the design and manufacture of jewelry as a kind of creative expression.

She also attended courses in goldsmithing.
Goldsmith seminars (2011 – 2012) - Municipality of Larissa, Design and modern techiniques of handmade jewelry (2013 -2014-2015) - Municipality of Volos - Institute of Vocational Training in applied Arts,
Wax courses for creating jewelry (2015) Mokume Art Studies of jewelry,
On line jewelry design seminar 3D modeling (2021) – Anamma art jewelry school-Athens/Greece.

In 2018, with her partner Marianthi Katsika, they founded “LEFFLOW ART STUDIO”, a contemporary art and jewelry workshop, where they work, move forward and express themselves through art, promote their work within the country and abroad.

For her every action is interwoven with the meaning, the deeper content and the time management that we have as living beings. With every collection of jewelry, she tries to approach and attribute the meaning of time through our actions, such as motion-inertia, evolution, human contact, contact with nature and the primordial instinct of preservation and survival.

She creates jewelry from silver, bronze, gold and upcycle materials, acrylic colors and enamel.
Also since 2018 is membership of jewelry platform “A Jewel Made in Greece”.

She has been awarded (2nd prize), by A Jewel Made in Greece competition category Solid Metals.

She has also participated in many group exhibitions, some of which include: Annual designers meeting 2019 & 2020 - A Jewel Made In Greece / Zappeio palace, Athens, Greece. Who’s Next, Paris, France, Jan. 2019. Exhibition Π3/ Coordinator Cheaparat-Anticlastics-Ozon at Athens International jewelry Show 2019 / March 2019. Milan Design Week Milan with Artistar jewels Milan Italy, April 2019. Exhibition "Fruits and Symbols" at the Nomismatic Museum, Athens, Greece (2019). Collectiva Meeting 2019 – Porto Portugal. New York City jewelry Week / Museum of Arts and Design / Nov. 2019. Exhibition “Fruits & Symbols” at the Greek Pavilion at China International imports Expo 2019/ Shanghai. Exhibition with AJMIG at the Hellas house in Shanghai (2019). Participation at Romanian jewelry week (1th edition) Sept.2020 Participation at Romanian jewelry week (2th edition) Sept.2021

Asteroid Mosaics - Magdalena Julia Bajer

A unique project that combines two vital aspects of Silesia: nature and legacy.
Nature is symbolised by carbon. Carbon, the element originated in Carbon, the era over 300 million years ago, yet it still has magnificent impact on the Silesia region nowadays. It is there where geological processes developed the "black gift" for Upper Silesia. Due to carbon, Silesia is perceived as industrial, dark and sooty.

Black glass symbolizing carbon is used in this upcyckling project. The shards of old silesian Asteroid glass come from the local Zabkowice glasswork, that does not exist anymore, yet its legacy remains.
My goal was that even the shards of this unique glass should be given a second life. Even shards - because that's all, what was left after a significant part of my collection was accidentally destroyed. A unique life. The Astroid mosaics enclosed in a traditional handmade jewelry silver frame are my tribute to excellent design, the artistry of goldsmithing, the value of family traditions, the history of Polish pressed glass and passion. A passion for collecting and creating.

The Asteroid collection of pressed glass was designed at the Ząbkowice Economic Glassworks in Dąbrowa Górnicza by Jan Sylwester Drost in 1972-1975, and the production started in 1975. The design itself is an original arrangement of glass convex dots forming an irregular and asymmetrical pattern on the surface of the plate. Asteroid is an icon of Polish design. The design revolutionized the approach to pressed glass as a typical glass type, emphasizing its phenomenal aesthetic and decorative qualities.
No two Asteroid pendants are the same, just as no two lumps of coal are the same.

Magdalena Julia Bajer – collector of works by Polish glass designers from HSG Ząbkowice, mainly by Eryka Trzewik-Drost and Jan Sylwester Drost. 1. MARIBOR HIGH SCHOOL OF DESIGN

VETRINJSKI DVOR
exhibition area
Vetrinjska ulica 30, Maribor

PRESENTATION:
Friday, 12 May 2023, from 10:00 to 20:00

The Maribor Secondary School of Design is presenting its products from the Design Technician course, Fashion Designer, Fashion Designer module at this year's SIJW. The garment as jewellery was designed and made by three students of the final fourth year.

Jana Lesičnik: Bloody Rain
Jana Lesičková was inspired by the film Carrie. The base fabric is black lycra, to which Jana added a woollen red yarn at the leg openings. The fashion accessories are a necklace and earrings made of faux pearls and red plexiglass in the shape of red drops. The basic colours are red, black and white.

Urška Žaberl: Lamproptera
Ur Ursula Żaberl finds her inspiration in insects, especially butterflies and dragonflies. She chose Laproptera Meges, an elegant Asian butterfly. She made a black bodice as a base, which is simple and elegant with a deep neckline. She then made black cotton trousers on which she attached butterflies and dragonflies in plexiglass in different sizes. A scarf in an organic wing shape completes the set. The whole creation is black, with flashes of pastel green, blue, yellow and pink.

Zoja Breznik: Gladiator fights
Inspired by gladiator fights, Zoja's product was inspired by them, so she chose their weapons as accessories. The wooden ornaments in the shape of an ellipse represent the spears and swords of the gladiators, and the chains represent the shields. For the bodice, she used black lycra, which is worn over the legs and fastened around the neck with a chain linked to a carabiner. The fashion accessory in silver can be worn around the neck or waist as desired.

Vetrinjska ulica 30, Maribor

SHOW:
Monday, 15 May 2023, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00

ŠC Rogaška Slatina, GLASS
The Rogaška Slatina School Centre is a school with a tradition of more than 75 years of education for the glass professions. In the school year 2022/23, the school has 22 students enrolled in the 4-year glass technician programme and 16 students enrolled in the apprenticeship glassmaker programme. The glass technician programme is designed to give ample space for developing creative ideas and experimenting with glass. Students learn about hot glass forming techniques (blowing, drawing, pressing, casting, glass forming over an open flame, etc.) and cold glass decorating techniques (sandblasting, grinding, engraving, stained glass, fusion, etc.).
Under the guidance of their teachers, the students achieve excellent results both in the classroom and in the Vocational Baccalaureate, and they also participate in international events, such as the World Glass Cutting Championships held in Nizbor, Czech Republic, in 2022, where their student Teja Kobula took 3rd place. Their regular school work also includes the preparation of exhibitions - one such exhibition is Pre>tok, which is the result of a collaboration with design students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, and which was first on show in 2023 at the Anina Gallery in Rogaška Slatina, and then in the showroom of Steklarna Rogaška in Ljubljana. They also regularly collaborate with the Slovenian Glassmakers' Association and exhibit at Strmol and Podsreda castles. Their students are involved in Erasmus + mobility (for several years in a row they have been doing a three-week practical training in Waterford, Ireland), and their regular school work also includes cooperation with renowned Slovenian artists.
Jewelry design is a very popular activity among future glass technicians.

Each piece of jewelry carries its own story of its creation, its meaning, its owner. Jewelry has enriched our lives for millennia, whether to adorn the body, to pin to clothing or, last but not least, to express power. It is the work of filigree makers, craftsmen, artists, who must have been able to satisfy the wishes of their clients and produce a useful, beautiful and functional piece that was worn by or dedicated to the higher instances, the gods of a time and age. In the middle of the 18th century, Maribor was home to one goldsmith and one jeweler. For this reason, there was no special guild in the town to unite jewelry makers, but the two craftsmen were included in the regional guilds of goldsmiths and jewelers, both based in Graz.

The Maribor Regional Museum holds many pieces of jewelry from different periods, from prehistoric times to the present day. Many interesting and beautiful pieces come from the graves in which they were placed as an heirloom, a souvenir of the journey to the afterlife. Are you interested in the trajectory of a particular archaeological find, in our case jewelry? From the site to the exhibition centre? On the walk you will discover 19th century photographs held by the Maribor Regional Archive, showing noblemen and especially noblewomen adorned with the jewelry of the time, the journey from manufacture to oblivion and the uncovering of the mysterious layers of history. We will try to find answers to the questions that arise when we look at these extraordinary finds: was jewelry part of everyday costume or part of the family fortune. Why, when and with whom did it go to the afterlife ... Images of jewelry that was fashionable long ago can serve as inspiration for new pieces.

Slavic women (and Slavs) loved to wear lots of jewelry - the more they jingled their ornaments, the richer they were - and they also believed that by shaking their jewelry loudly they could ward off evil spirits. After just a few minutes of firing, the clay becomes 99.9% silver. The demonstration will consist of making a piece of silver clay jewelry and showing the necessary tools. One-day workshops and courses for certification in silver clay jewelry design will also be presented.

DELAVNICA: RISANJE OBLIKE Z ŽICO, ulična delavnica
10. 5. 2022, ob 16.00

DELAVNICA: USTVARJANJE RISBE Z JEDKANJEM, ulična delavnica
12. 5. 2022, ob 16.00

14. 5. 2022, ob 16.00

Na delavnici bomo preizkušali različne tehnike vezenja in vzorčenja mehkih tekstilnih blazinic. Udeleženci bodo po svoji likovni predlogi izdelali motiv, katerega bodo bodisi s čopičem in barvo, bodisi z okrasnimi šivi in vezenjem prenesli na tekstilno blazinico in jo z dodano zaponko oblikovali v broško. Domišljija in kreativnost bosta udeležence s pomočjo mentorice vodila do raznovrstnih ustvarjalnih rešitev.

Delavnica je namenjena udeležencem vseh starosti. Otroci mlajši od 11 let naj bodo v spremstvu staršev. V primeru slabega vremena se delavnica prestavi v notranjost lokala.

Zlati nakit stiške kneginje

Mlajšo damo iz Stične so v 7. oziroma 6. stoletju pr. Kr. pokopali v razkošni opravi. Izjemen nakit iz zlate pločevine so v dolenjskih halštatskih skupnostih premogle le pripadnice najvišjega družbenega sloja. Podobnim zlatim diademom in aplikam sledimo vse do Predkavkazja, kar kaže na stike s skitskimi skupnostmi. Hrani Narodni muzej Slovenije.

Lara Bohinc, ogrlica Lunar Eclipse

LOST IN TRANSLATION: Klaudia Jurić

PLETENA FANTAZIJA

LOST IN TRANSLATION

KROG

Aleksandra Atanasovski

EHO studio, Slovenska cesta 17, Ljubljana

Ordinary madness

»It is a temptation for me not to wear all myringsat once.« (Anna Held) »The free soul is rare, but you know it when you see it -basically because you feel good, very good, when you are near or with them« (Charles Bukowski, Tales of Ordinary Madness)

Andreja Kragelnik je oblikovalka tekstilij in oblačil.
