Statement

“It’s a jungle out there!”

These bracelets honour Alexander McQueen, a brilliant yet troubled artist whose loss was deeply felt. Inspired by his It's a Jungle Out There (Autumn/Winter 1997) collection, his work featured 75 looks inspired by Scottish explorer Joseph Thomson’s gazelle and included materials like fur, silk, leather, and taxidermy. Known for sharp tailoring and controversial themes, such as romanticism, sexuality, and death, McQueen's shows were dramatic and often included performance art. He designed 36 collections before his tragic death by suicide in 2010 at the age of 40, shortly after the death of his mother.

Material

copper base, cow fur, silver

From childhood and throughout her life, Penny has been deeply captivated by the beauty and allure of jewellery. She sees each piece as a statement – an authentic reflection of one's personality and style.

In 2008 she started her studies in Jewellery Design and Silversmithing at the Institute of Arts and Crafts in Mechelen, Belgium.

In 2015 she graduated with the theme Papou, an ode to her Greek grandfather. Her 2 great loves and passions, her grandfather and jewels, merged beautifully in a serene ending.

One of her graduation pieces included her grandfather's vision of life, a quote from Nikos Kazantzakis: “I hope for nothing, I fear nothing, I am free”, which she wants to carry out in the future.

Since then, her pieces have been exhibited and awarded in different places in Belgium, the Netherlands and Romania.

She is an active member of Les Brucelles since 2022.
