SLOVENIAN JEWELRY WEEK

Programme 2025

Center Rog
Trubarjeva 72, Ljubljana
Opening: Friday, 11 April 2025, at 19:00
Exhibition open: 10–19 April 2025, Monday to Saturday, 10:00–18:00

The main curated exhibition of SIJW 2025, on display at the Center Rog from 10 to 19 April, is inspired by the theme “Energy/Energy”. We present a selection of contemporary jewellery designers from Slovenia, Europe, and beyond, selected by an expert jury. The best among them will be awarded prizes for their outstanding achievements.

The designers explore the dynamics of creativity and transformation, examining how energy goes beyond physical resources to influence the psychological, emotional, and spiritual dimensions that shape our world. The exhibition also highlights how social and cultural tensions linked to energy transitions transform different sectors of society and inspire artistic expression.

Contemporary designers draw inspiration from these changes, transforming raw materials into artistic creations that reflect the spirit of the times. The exhibition provides insight into the role of energy in artistic creation and social change, offering a space for reflection on art in a time of transformation.

YOUNG JEWELRY DESIGNERS:

SUPPORTED BY ZLATARNA CELJE AND CENTER ROG

This year, the main exhibition of Slovenian Jewellery Week (SIJW) will also showcase selected works by the younger generation of artists—school and university students. The call for entries received an overwhelming response from young designers, reflecting a remarkable interest in contemporary jewellery design among emerging talents.

After careful deliberation, the expert jury—comprising Metka Mikuletič, Anja Radovič, and Olga Košica—selected five talented artists from four different educational institutions. Their works, chosen from a pool of high-quality submissions, will be exhibited as part of the main SIJW exhibition, presented alongside established names in contemporary jewellery design.

The Jewellery Lab, operating within the Center Rog, has played a crucial role in fostering and supporting the next generation of contemporary jewellery designers. This space, equipped and made possible by Zlatarna Celje, was established with the aim of encouraging young artists to create, experiment, and explore innovative approaches to jewellery design in a contemporary setting.

Joy in Contemporary Jewellery

Joy in contemporary jewellery represents diverse approaches that celebrate life, creativity, and emotional connection. It is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and innovation, reflected in design, material choices, colours, and forms.

Many jewellery pieces—brooches, rings, bracelets, and earrings—on display at this exhibition incorporate vibrant colours, playful shapes, and innovative materials, evoking feelings of happiness and vitality. Each piece tells a personal or collective story, transforming the ordinary into something extraordinary.

Focusing on sustainability and creativity, the use of recycled or unconventional materials adds a layer of hope and responsibility. This fusion of aesthetics and social awareness reinforces the idea that art can serve as both a source of joy (Alegría) and a means of transformation. In this context, jewellery is not just an accessory but a medium of emotional expression, human connection, and a celebration of life’s beauty.

The exhibition will showcase unique jewellery by Slovenian designers and goldsmiths, who work exclusively with Slovenian stones—discovered, cut, and polished in Slovenia. Stones and jewellery are deeply intertwined, telling stories that span millions of years while merging with contemporary design approaches.

Each original jewellery piece, adorned with natural stones from Slovenian deposits, highlights the beauty of nature through its colour, texture, and form, bringing together various local artisans in a harmonious creative dialogue.

This project was developed in collaboration with the Slovenian Museum of Natural History and the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia (Goldsmiths and Jewellers Section). It is also linked to the MINFOS International Mineral Fair, continually growing and evolving. The exhibition is part of a sustainable initiative that emphasizes both Slovenia’s cultural and natural heritage.
