KONSTANZE PRECHTL

Folded Volumes

In this series, matter is understood as something that is already present but never fixed in one state. Flat panels of cubes and cuboids are flexibly connected, giving the surfaces the potential for volume. A thread runs through the planes and with a simple pull, the flat structure begins to move and folds into a spatial body. This movement can be reversed. The inside becomes the outside, the outside becomes the inside. The elements remain the same, but their presence is completely transformed.
Substance is revealed here through a performative gesture, not as a stable essence, but as something that can change through movement, tension and relaxation. What is transformed is not the material itself, but the way it exists in space. The renovation happens in the act of designing.
