ANNA PAPARELLA

Knitted Breath

In this necklace, matter becomes the language of metamorphosis. Spirographs, forms inspired by the marine world, emerge from the encounter between sea sponges and X-ray film – opposing elements united in a balance between the organic and the artificial. The sponge preserves the memory of the sea; the X-ray reveals what is hidden beneath the surface. Together, they reinvent substance, transforming it into a poetic presence. The work captures the moment when matter changes state, renews itself and becomes symbol — a newly imagined substance, fragile yet vital, where nature, technology and creative gesture meet.

Material

Sea sponges, X-ray plates, yarn, acrylic paints

Crochet, hand embroidery, carving

ANNA PAPARELLA, Italy

Anna Paparella is a contemporary jewelry artist who transforms materials into narratives. She lives and works in Giovinazzo; between the light of the Adriatic Sea and the inspiration she draws from nature and memory. In 2012, she began experimenting with ever-changing forms and techniques, creating jewerly pieces that go beyond mere decoration – they become small works of art. In 2016, she transformed the concept of jewelry with her revolutionary patented project “RRXX”, in which she intertwines the tenderness of crochet with X-ray. It is a visionary process that transforms diagnostic images – intimate and ephemeral traces – into tangible creations full of meaning and memory. Since 2020, her works have conquered the international scene and have been exhibited at prestigious events such as the International Art Jewelry Exhibition in Beijing.
