YUXIN SONG
Gem
“Enamel first appeared as a substitute for gemstone in the Mycenaean cloisonné technique and has evolved over the centuries and cultures. My practice draws on this heritage and brings its historical and conceptual resonance into a contemporary dialogue. Through experimentation, I have combined six enamelling techniques and created over twenty distinct effects, allowing me to find the most appropriate result that respects the origin of enamel. In this work, enamel is revealed as a continuum – a journey from imitation to authentic expression, reflecting both its own development and our growth as human beings, while respecting the past while emphasizing vitality.”
