50 KG – foot ornament

50 kg is often considered the standard weight for Asian women, and this number often causes anxiety while weighing. This anxiety makes us instinctively step on the scales with tips of our toes, as if the weight of our bodies could crush something soft and fragile under our feet. This light but tense movement feels like putting on a pair of transparent shackles – seemingly gentle, but in its essence restrictive.

Material: silver, copper, transparent resin, silicon

Technique: 3D printing, metal casting, electroplating, metal weaving

Xi Li is a London-based contemporary jewelry artist and designer currently pursuing her MA at Central Saint Martins. Her research focuses on contemporary jewelry and sustainable material innovation. Her practice spans jewelry, sculpture and painting, incorporating traditional craftsmanship into contemporary design through experimental exploration of material. After completing her undergraduate studies, she continued to refine her artistic language, balancing her professional work with her personal practice. This period deepened both her orientation towards the material and her conceptual approach, which ultimately led her to continue her studies at Central Saint Martins.
