SOL FLORES, Argentina

Alice in paper

The word carousel comes from in the Italian word garosello and the Spanish carosela, meaning “first battle”. This was the name of a combat exercise that reinforced the training of the

horsemen for battle, in which they attacked dolls that represented the enemy with wooden swords. By returning to this original meaning and by reflecting on the stories of our childhood, I fight the “first battle” in search of lost innocence and the illusion that by circling we may reach a new, better place or perceive something that we previously overlooked. In my collection of carousels, I recreate scenes from stories I have read, but with a more critical perspective, using the images that I remember but interpreting them in a modern way. By recycling the materials from which I make them, I try to give new meaning to both the stories and the ways they are conveyed. In the end, I realize that catching the ring and winning a free round may no longer be a prize, but a second chance to decide whether to get out or continue to circle ... So, what are you going to do now?
