SANDRA KOCJANČIČ

Threads of time – necklace

"In a place where people weaved their destiny with wool, knitwear is not just an everyday object, but a portal to the past, a bridge between worlds. When I found a piece of worn knitwear, I felt that it was not just waste, but a fragment of a larger story waiting to be woven. In Istria, where everyday tasks meet mythological stories, it is not unusual for a woven knot to become a link between worlds. Knitting has always been more than just a craft for me, because every smallest knot brings warmth and magic. When I restored the knitwear, it felt like I was reviving stories, starting to weave time lost somewhere in between. And if you take a moment to into each knot, you can feel that you too are part of this magical chain, which grows stronger with a deep respect for our essence."

Sandra Kocjančič, a renowned designer from Primorska, has been crocheting jewelry for over two decades, using precious metals, waste materials and natural elements, transforming them into unique works of art. Her creations are not just decorations, but carry stories that connect fashion, nature and art. Crochet, usually associated with delicate patterns, Sandra elevates it to a higher level, where the metal becomes soft and fluid, yet retains its strength. In 2013, she opened the DRAT gallery in Izola, dedicated to contemporary jewelry, where various artistic disciplines meet. The gallery quickly became a cultural centre, allowing visitors to gain insight into the creative process of Sandra and other artists.
