ROBIN DERIAZ

Substantia

This collection was created with idea of treating 3D printed media as a limited resource, similar to natural stones and minerals. I was excited by the possibility of using digital tools to create a new material which can then be worked with in a traditional way.
Each piece in the collection is hand-carved from this newly conceived substance, created in virtual reality and then printed using 3D technology. The material mimic organic structures, with variations in texture and density throughout the mass.
The series includes a ring, a pair of earrings and a brooch. Each piece is initially created from the same block, then cast in silver or aluminium. The aluminium offers lightness, and these pieces are finished with a black satin powder coating that highlights the unusual structure of the material.

ROBIN DERIAZ, Switzerland

Robin Deriaz is a Swiss artist and jewelry designer. His practice is experimental and unconventional. He treats all material equally, whether precious or ordinary. Through handcrafting, wax casting, virtual reality (VR) drawing and 3D printing, he explores what happens when digital and analogue tools meet. For him, each piece of jewelry represents an experience, a narrative object that raises questions about our relationship with the environment and the Earth. Beyond decoration, it becomes sculptural and carries meaning. He also aims to stimulate reflection and questions, and explore how jewellery can carry memory and emotion. His visual language is derived from nature, industrial structures, random textures and small details of everyday life. Recently, he has focused mainly on wear, transience and traces.
