Oxygen

Luc Balthazar gets inspiration from the medical field. Forms and tools such as inhalers and medical forceps, as well as the influence of a condition on someone’s well-being.

One may need medicine to breathe freely: to have plenty of oxygen, a source of energy that we need to do what we want to.

Material

Oxygen No. 1: porcelain, silver

Oxygen No. 2: Porcelain, silver

Luc attended the AHbeeld academy Sint-Truiden in the field of study Jewelry Design/Precious Metals. He is a designer and makes objects and contemporary jewellery.

The human body and psyche are sources of inspiration. He conducted research into what someone is proud of and what the consequences are of treatment for shortness of breath.

He uses homemade plaster moulds into which he pours porcelain. The porcelain shapes are important parts, together with silver, bronze and small objects, in the jewellery he makes.

In 2020 he was one of the winners of the “quarantine jewellery” competition of the CODA museum Apeldoorn (NL). The ring was purchased by the museum. In 2024 he won the “Les Brucelles” prize at Be.Next during the Brussels Jewellery Week.
