LEDA DAVERIO, Argentina

A cow

This pendant is part of the trilogy “Hoy carneamos”. “La carneada” is a traditional practice in the Argentine countryside, a ritual in which a family – especially the men – gathers to slaughter the animals that will sustain them throughout the year. The series tells the story of a cow that, in the night and the vast darkness of the countryside, crosses paths with its captors. This scene may also be read as the story of countless young women and girls, both in Latin America and around the world, who are subjected to the violence of their attackers.

Today, she continues her practice in her studio in Villa Lía, San Antonio de Areco, in the province of Buenos Aires.
