DUNJA NAERLOVIĆ, Croatia

Leonora I/The Difficulty of Walking Back Down the Hill, Leaning Upwards

Dunja Naerlović analyses motifs from Leonora Carrington's early paintings.

In the first part – Leonora I/The Difficulty of Walking Back Down the Hill, Leaning Upwards – she asks whether something is what it is if it lacks what is generally accepted, thus transforming the horse into a contemplative yet irrational, surrealistically conceived figure.

Material: brass, steel, ready-made elements

Technique: cutting, carving, soldering

Leonora II/Inside I am a blue orange seed peel

In the second part – Leonora II/Inside I am a blue orange seed peel – she uses a group of bent copper circles to form the minimalist bodies of abstracted rocking horses, into which she engraves her own texts, created through automatic writing (psychography). The resulting elements can be arranged in the correct order or intuitively, because each time they create a new composition, thus connecting surrealism and deconstruction.

Dunja Naerlović was born in 1987. She holds a master’s degree in architecture and urbanism and has been creating conceptual art jewelry since 2006, exhibiting bothin Croatia and abroad.
