Trial and Transmutation #1 and #2

Nature is inherently self-organising; she endlessly evolves, recalibrates and equilibrates between opposing but interdependent forces. Duality is the lynchpin of existence: there is no life without death, no energy without inertia, no order without disorder, no power without weakness. But it is also full of secondary attributes, complex textures, the seen and unseen. Rough around the edges, it is layered with joy, drama, glamour, grit, dysfunction; some plain to see, some lurking beneath our façades, all always transmuting.

Trial and Transmutation encapsulates the dynamic flux between contrary yet complementary states of disarray and symmetry. Nature IS dynamism, and change is the only constant in life.

Shin is an art jeweller based in Singapore. With a background in sociology, she combines her interests in social issues with traditional metalsmithing techniques and contemporary body ornamentation in her artistic practice. Her practice also serves as a medium for meaningful inquiry into the human condition, externalising the internal and instinctual as tangible, wearable objects. Shin studied contemporary jewellery and design in Florence, Italy in 2017 and 2018, and has since exhibited in Singapore, Austria, France, Germany, Slovenia and the UK, including Munich Jewellery Week and Slovenia Jewellery Week 2024.
