The Machine Collection takes a closer look at the creation process and investigates what it looks like to change, going from an “untouched”, “pure” crystal to a “sophisticated”, “valuable”, cut, precious stone. With this collection, I broach the topic of nature and human intervention. I use a crystal as a symbol of untouched nature and a cut stone as a symbol of nature modified by human intervention. The crystal goes into the tube, around the finger and comes out as a cut stone. The ring tells the story of how we change nature and make it more refined, more precious, more valuable. And this raises new questions: What is precious? Should we leave nature untouched or change it to suit our needs and preferences?
Tomas Misković has been a jeweler for over 20 years. After a start in fine jewelry, he quickly found his passion for art jewelry, winning several awards for his designs and techniques. With the label "unexpected jewelry", he attempts to break the rules of "ordinary" jewelry and of the expected. Each piece is an experiment in pushing the boundaries of the craft and attempting to re-invent what jewelry can be. At the same time, he wants to stay true to his roots in traditional goldsmithing, using established materials - gold, sterling silver, precious stones – and techniques.
