NAOMI CLARKE (UK): THE ROLES OF JEWELLERY IN FAMILY, INSTITUTIONAL AND STATE COLLECTIONS, lecture
Centre Rog, Trubarjeva 72, 1000 Ljubljana
Friday, 10 May 2024, 10:00 am

Join Naomi Clarke for a talk about the School of Jewellery, part of Birmingham City University, find out more about its courses, people and current activities. Naomi will also share her
insights into navigating the boundaries between academic and social art practice. She has been a lecturer at Birmingham City University's School of Jewellery since 2020 and currently teaches at MA Jewellery and Related Products. She has worked in the wider jewellery industry for the last 20 years and silversmithing industry in a variety of roles in the arts and heritage sector.

Naomi is a jewellery designer who holds an MA from Birmingham City University's School of Jewellery. She returned to education as a mature student, bringing with her an extensive experience as an auctioneer, with an interest in the provenance of historical artifacts.

She has developed an interesting - and unique - methodology: she unpacked jewellery boxes and, together with their owners, created visual maps of their contents and the stories behind them; she created collections that reflect these stories, but also subtly demolished; and finally, she used her experience as an auctioneer to cast the shadow of time on these objects and to consider how they might be treated in the future when they are stripped of the personal connections that made them so important to the authors of the stories. Naomi's multi-faceted research goes to the heart of the complex role that jewellery plays in family, institutional and civic collections.

DRAWER HANDLES AS JEWELLERY (My Little Beast), exhibition
Faculty of Design, independent higher education institution
Dunajska 129, 1000 Ljubljana (ground floor)
9 – 20 May 2024

Students of the Faculty of Design - Ajda Kristan, Eva Gulin and Špela Gosnik, with their commitment and professional guidance of the professors at the Faculty of Design and in cooperation with the Sežana Incubator, have developed an idea, which bears the title "My Little Beast".

The sensory cabinets "My Little Beast" were born out of the awareness that today's children are lagging behind in the development of motor and sensory skills due to the influence of the modern world, digitalisation and a lifestyle that offers children no room for imagination. The wardrobe is an innovative learning tool that stimulates children's motor skills, articulation and sensory skills. By combining learning and storage elements, it offers a comprehensive solution to the challenges of less developed skills.

Special attention is paid to the aesthetic and functional elements of the handle, as well as to the use of natural materials, with paints and coatings that are child- and environment-friendly; Slovenian production contributes to local sustainable production. The wardrobe is designed to encourage word learning, sentence formation, story development, foreign language learning, exploring textures and enhancing children's creativity.

FLOWER ORNAMENT - Floral Ornament, exhibition by Aleksandra Atanasovski
EHO Studio, Slovenska 17, 1000 Ljubljan
Thursday, 09 May 2024.

EHO Studio will present a new series of jewellery by Aleksandra Atanasovska entitled Floewr ornament-Flower ornament.
The
collection is inspired by the flowers that are arranged in garlands in eastern countries such as India, Thailand and other countries, and given as welcome gifts to people, and especially as offerings to deities.
Giving
has a different place in Indian culture than it does in ours. This practice is rooted in ancient Indian culture and can be said to be part of the process on the path to enlightenment.
The
adornment on Bodhisattvas is full of symbols that reflect the inner qualities of the Bodhisattvas, who are in tune with their virtues and the jewellery they wear represents this. This rich mentality that jewellery is a symbol of our altruistic deeds is remarkable to me. Thus all the practices of the Bodhisattvas are arranged in garlands of flowers that we too can wear, and if we sometimes just remember this meaning, we are contributing a flower to our own garland and to the garlands of others.

365 PIŠKOTOV (365 BISCUITS), Izola Secondary School, exhibition with tasting
DRAT Gallery, Ljubljanska ulica 20, Izola
Saturday, 11 May 2024, 11:00 am

For the opening of the Slovenian Jewellery Week in Izola, students of the Izola Secondary School, under the guidance of Prof. Mojca Žnidaršič and designer Sandra Kocjančič, will bake 365 biscuits, which they will then link together to form a large delicious necklace. This unique necklace will symbolise the days of the year that we will enjoy together.
The idea for this unique creation dates back to 2022, when designer Sandra Kocjančič invited visual arts and design students to each create their own circle using any technique, representing a day, a period of time or a cycle in their lives. This is how the giant urban necklace was created. The interconnected circles of different artists formed a giant necklace that represented our connectedness and strength in coming together as a community, the power of joy, one of Europe's fundamental values.

9.5.-20.5.2024

During the Slovenian Jewelry Week, we invite you to join us at https://www.jewelry-visions.com/about and follow us via https://www.instagram.com/jewelry_visions/
JEWELRY VISIONS is Inspiring discovery through creativity. Sharing creativity and skills in contemporary jewelry making.

JEWELRY VISIONS - A learning and networking environment that builds on Slovenian tradition, culture, craft, knowledge, and creativity.

JEWELRY VISIONS connects and supports two great causes:

1. The jewelry design community will be provided with training courses and tools, and the knowledge will be spread internationally.

2. The JEWELRY VISIONS community will be able to cooperate and have an up-to-date database containing their portfolios and galleries.
